My parents are very much tollerant of the diversity. Shit, they're still holding down the fort after a lifetime in their city. To give you an idea how much it's changed from when he graduated in the late 60s, you could literally count on one hand the number of African Americans in a school of over 1,000. When I graduated from that same high school at around the turn of the century, the Indochinese and African Americans were by far the highest. Crazy how a city can literally change so much in just a few decades.

You have to also consider historically there has always been a disconnect between what some were willing to say and do in public from what they actually thought and did in private.

The change could simply represent what people feel comfortable enough to admit to ...although that would still represent a change as well.

It's amazing how a country can change so much in less than 60 years. If this poll was taken in the 1950's, the overwhelming majority would have said no, as up to 94% were against interracial marriage in 1954.
That gives some hope as a transgender woman, that America will continue to change towards a more inclusive, open-minded society, as the more prejudiced and bigoted generations either change their minds or die off.

Well all be dead then or too old to care anymore because no one wants to fuck old people.

I remember my dad telling me about how really, really bad he felt watching blacks in the South getting beat by battons and hoses during the civil rights movement on TV when he was a kid. But there are a lot of Northern whites that just talk a good game when it comes to equality. The 'white flight' is out of control in my city.

I can understand black people from that era, but a lot of the black people who cry about racism are the same ones who smile when their kid and a gang of others beat the hell out of some Asian or white kid. I've seen it with my own two eyes.

There's racism from all groups, if anything black people seem "the most racist" because black racism hasn't really been called out, there's still excuses made for it in academia. A lot of the bigoted white people who would have made it easier for the hardcore violent racists to operate have been scared out of acting by risk of social ostracism, having their career ruined etc. That's not to say that they suddenly "saw the light" and became anti-racist.

With black people, it's almost completely unreconstructed. They are only NOW being called out, so you see the stuff that goes on with African Americans. Yes they get targeted for hate crimes quite a bit, but black people are also the most overrepresented group in terms of COMMITTING hate crimes by a large margin.

It's also difficult to tell how the crimes breakdown. Someone who burns a swastika in someone's grass is a different crime than someone who kills their boss and rapes and murders his wife because she is black and married to a white man. Which happened in San Diego only recently. The other thing is capricious application of hate crime charges from state to state.

Well, you can snicker all you want, but depends really on where you live. I'm white and have had lots of "incidents" in my life due to my color. Most recently in DC a couple of weeks ago. Some black people feel completely justified with intimidating, fighting, and yelling racist things at white people simply because their white. Say what you like, but I see it regularly and have all my life. :dunno:

I am sorry that these things happened in whatever city you live in, but I have been all over this country and I will have to tell you that the door swings both ways on this. Hell, some of the places I have been have had reputations of the door coming clean off the hinge if you catch my drift.

Personally, I think your post is slightly misleading. Racism is like water in that it comes in more than one form. Now if you were to say that blacks are the most directly racist people in the United States today, then I would provide little argument there if you were talking about what category that most racist blacks fall into. Perhaps Mexicans could contend for that spot as well, but little to no one else comes close. I have hung around black people a good bit and I know for a fact that if they don't like you, they are not likely to pretend like they do. They are even less likely to hold their tongue on the matter. In retrospect, they are a very mistrusting and suspicious people. There are plenty of reasons why but I have not the time or character space to write that out

Then there is subtle racism, the silent killer as I like to call it. Sometimes you don't even know it happened until you go back and reevaluate the situation. The difference between the two is the same as there is between a guy who doesn't like you hauling off and punching you in the face right then and there or the bastard who smiles at you and shakes hands with you only to plunge a knife in your skull the moment your back is turned. Most racist white people fall in this category. As with black racist, there are exceptions. I have seen way too many swastika wearing, rebel flag totting, fatigue wearing yahoos to know better. Subtle racism cost you a bit more than a black eye and some missing teeth. Its impacts are a bit more economical, social, and psychological than physical. I used to work as a car salesman, so I have seen a bit of that a lot. White customers come to the lot, black salesman picks up on them first, they smile and tell the salesman that they are just browsing and need no help only to run off a few minutes later to the first white salesman they see. Didn't happen all the time, but it did happen enough to make a few of them quit.

I guess in short I am saying that I really can't call blacks the most racist people in the US. I don't even know how one goes about measuring such a thing without taking into consideration all the various forms that that virulent entity known as racism can take.

Then again, perhaps I am being just a tad bit biased having Black and Native American(yeah I know, plenty of opportunity to hate whitey:tongue ancestry. But hell, I am part white too so everything kinda balances out a bit

^What he said, I live in a city that is 70 some percent hispanic and I see subtle racism from non-hispanic whites all the time and they're the minority!!!

It really sucks too sometimes some of my friends, who are white and super tolerant towards others (unlike some people on this board) get a bad rep for being racist like those backward ass white people that live in this city.

Also I've never had a black be racist towards me but I sure as hell have felt extreme racism from whites up in Colorado, Northern New Mexico, Arizona and East Texas (Towns outside of Dallas being the fuckin worst), it's just terrible people are still so racist and close-minded and it makes me stray from anywhere in the Southern U.S. even though I really want to travel to Georgia, Carolinas, etc.

I've been called a cracker a bunch of times growing up, and even though I've known white people that use racist terms, I generally - coming from a very liberal neighborhood - know many more whites that are tolerant of diversity and have been critical (the Lutherans) in inviting downtrodden minorities from all parts of the world to the TC. What I do know is that if I go into any predominately black neighborhood at night my C&C better be in order. I mean let's be real here, my life would be in danger. Is that racism? I say hell fuckin' yes it is.

As far as just isolating (segregating) the Asians I've known have been quite consistant in that regard. I've seen tons of black/white relationships.

There are some definitely some beautiful "foreign" girls out there, but I would never have a child that wasn't White. That is non-negotiable. White man + White woman = White baby. That is a traditional family for me and I would never stray from that. I would hope Asians and Blacks or whoever felt the same way about their own people as well, but often they would rather mix with Whites. Mixed race families just don't seem natural to me, but I won't shit on other people who choose to go that route. No skin ff my back....just not for me.
