Who is Neil Armstrong?

Neil Armstrong inside the Lunar Module Armstrong enigma
Moon pioneer could make $1m in a day - why doesn't he?

A hero to millions, Neil Armstrong has consistently shunned the limelight. To mark the 40th anniversary of the first manned Moon landing, author Andrew Smith travelled across America to discover why the man who first set foot upon the Moon remains such an enigma.

Love comes and goes but FreeOnes is forever.
just my opinion its because he never landed on the moon.....the guy should be a world celebrity all over the news as we approach the 40th anniversary of the moon landing....here he is at the 25th anniversary....hmmm subliminal message at the end?...

Never argue with a fool. People might not know the difference.

Coz he's probably pissed off with idiot conspiracy geeks banging on about how he didn't land on the moon!

The programme on bbc4 last night was very good, even though the presenter didn't get to meet Neil.

I was wondering when someone would mention the moon landing conspiracy. I will have a look at the bbc4 doc when I get some time.

Neil is Louie Armstrong's brother.

Pity Neil didnt pick up his brothers musical talents.

I'm watching a doc on BBC4 right now called For All Man Kind about the 24 men who landed on the mood. It's very interesting. Check it out on the iPlayer if you can.

It's easier, safer and much, much cheaper to study the moon and the rest of the universe without putting a man on it. That's why no one has been back.

That was Buzz Aldrin, not Neil Armstrong. Both are American heroes. Neil is a Boilermaker (Boiler Up!) and was at one of the football games last year. He's a very humble, soft-spoken man. He doesn't have to prove anything. Evidence for the moon landing is overwhelming. I'm not going to get into it. Anyone buying into a conspiracy about this is misinformed. I might tolerate Kennedy conspiracy theory, but that's about it.

The people that think the moon landing was *fake* are the people that wish it was this guy instead...

and those same people probably think this would happen to someone who lands on the moon...

:dunno:

I know how to use the search button!
Mr Heston would have landed on the moon before anyone else. However, the Moon-shins have a very strict gun policy. And if he ran in to some of those damn, dirty apes, he would have to bare knuckle them.
Or something like that :)

Friday on my mind

Pain heals, chicks dig scars, Freeones lasts forever
Armstrong always recognized that he was just the right person in the right place to be the first human to step on the moon.He has always been very wary of any attempts to "cash in" or personalize it.

As he said " One small step for man,one giant leap for mankind"

He has IMO tried to keep that in mind ever since and choose those words carefully.

Sounds good, I think I will sir. The one last night about Neil wasn't bad. Interesting info about his chats with/admiration of Charles. Lindbergh which probably influenced his publicity shy persona.

he made plenty of dough:
After Armstrong retired from NASA in 1971, he avoided offers from businesses to act as a spokesman. The first company to successfully approach him was Chrysler, for whom he appeared in advertising starting in January 1979. Armstrong thought they had a strong engineering division, plus they were in financial difficulty. He acted as a spokesman for other companies, including General Time Corporation and the Bankers Association of America. He only acts as a spokesman for United States businesses.[59]

Along with spokesman duties, he also served on the board of directors of several companies, including Marathon Oil, Learjet, Cincinnati Gas & Electric Company, Taft Broadcasting, United Airlines, Eaton Corporation, AIL Systems, and Thiokol. He joined Thiokol's board after he served on the Rogers Commission; Challenger was destroyed due to a problem with the Thiokol-manufactured Solid Rocket Boosters. He retired as chairman of the board of EDO Corporation in 2002.[60]

Shortly after Apollo 11 landing, I was talking to one of my father's oldest friends. He was Ed White's uncle. (Ed White was the first American to walk in space and Apollo 1's Commander.) After the Apollo 1 Memorial service Neil Armstrong sat down and talked to him for over a half hour. Armstrong talked about the program, the dangers, the calculated risks, etc. He was very impressed with Armstrong's intelligence, maturity, judgement, & modesty. The exact opposite of how you would think of a hot shot test pilot/astronaut.
