Who likes being unemployed and over 30?

I have been unemployed for the past 6 months. Within that time I have had about a dozen callbacks and 2 interviews out of God know how many submitted applications. It's frustrating living on the government's dime and I am constantly having my spirit crushed. Having no job is a job in and of itself.
I want everyone to share their thoughts and feelings on how you dealt with it and your experiences with it. Thanks.

It's tough out there, no doubt about that. Luckily, I am self-employed but several of my erstwhile colleagues (from my same past employer) have been made redundant due to the recession. One of them has eaten into virtually all his savings.

I was unemployed for at least 5+ years. After awhile you either get used to it or
try to find something for less money. I finally got off my ass and decided it was
better to have a job than nothing. Now, I've got a steady paycheck, the hours
are good and have some money left over to even invest.

Most people would scoff at my job, but hey!, it's a living!
The best part of all, I have no boss. It's nice to be self-employed.

Of course, I would'nt mind having that guy's job, oiling up the models before their
photo shoots!!

My advice: 1. Just keep plugging away.
2. Don't despair, there's always something around the corner.
3. Don't be picky, who can afford to be these days!

Thanks, man. I am applying for all sorts of jobs of varying skills and qualifications. I know something will happen eventually, it's just in the meantime I am bouncing of the walls in frustration and few friends to expess it to. Thanks again for responding.

Luckily I have not been in this situation.
The best thing I can say is to just keep plugging away, the economy is going to turn.

I would kill for that job myself! Ha ha! At least I haven't lost my sence of humor. (such as it is)

Why was my picture deleted?
I've been unemployed for awhile myself. I spend a good part of my time trying to hone my skills. I have a college degree, and that in and of it self is not enough anymore.

That's so true!
It's just a piece of paper. Most employers could care less, It's more like, now,
"What have you done lately?"

The government did it.
Sorry to hear that, I've been there and had to deal with that too. Bad for you the economy just sucks right now and trying to find something would be fun. Good luck!!

Is somewhere outhere.
I've been on the dole for 4 months now, some days are good and others
not so.Like you,I fire my CV out to every Tom,Dick and Harry, but now
I'm thinking I must have a deadly dose...must be a bad day today :D

But I'm sure something will come along eventually, and i'll just need to
keep plugging away. The only thing I can say it was a smart move by
saving throughout those prosperous years :)

I think you just have to remain positive because something will come
along sometime. :thefinger

Good luck :glugglug:

Plugging away is about the only thing I can do. It's like throwing darts at a board and eventually something will stick and who knows, I might actually hit the bullseye.

^^Persevere. You will be duly rewarded. For me, there are pros and cons to working for myself...the pros win out :)

Out of my mind. Back in five minutes.
I think moving back into mom's basement is definitely a huge plus. :nanner:
