I've never been much of a Zep fan but I'd never "avoid" a song I like just because of what may or may not be heard when playing it backwards.

Aye, I love Like Spinning Plates. The chord progression is so odd that I thought maybe it was written backwards to begin with, but I reversed it on my computer and it sounds just as odd that way 'round! Also, the synthy backing is really punchy and strong when you reverse it! I do love the live version too. It's worth buying the I Might Be Wrong live album just for that track.

You might be right... I hadn't given that track much consideration as it seemed more like a chance to experiment then an effort to create something listenable. Then again, I might have a bit of a bias against songs being played backwards (as my previous remarks no doubt indicated). I've not heard many songs intentionally recorded backwards... the only one that comes to mind immediately would be Full Fathom Five by the Stone Roses, which I believe was just Elephant Stone played backwards. I liked ES, but never thought much of it's reverse. Others backwards songs I've heard (but cannot remember by name) didn't leave a lasting impression either..... obviously!

There's a really nice track by Simian (really cool band who just split up - D'oh!) called Reasons which has a really nice acoustic guitar riff and an almost tribal drum beat which progresses through the song, and then it phases into another guitar riff that's being played backwards and the song gradually draws to an ambient close. I'm all for clever production-based music as long as it has a tune or some kind of structure. I think Like Spinning Plates has a lovely haunting-like quality to it. Radiohead apparently originally recorded I Will (off their last album) in a similar way and it's available on the B-sides album which is out now... in Japan.

Half of that doesnt even sound like what the thing says its saying... Hell even my friend playing the theme of Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter backwords sounds more like normal words then that does...

Ya know, I actually took a few minutes of my time to listen to these selections... and boy was it a waste. I can't believe people take these messages seriously.

FYI, this website, blacksheep or whatever the hell they're called, is some sort of "do-gooder" site.... their main page features two women dressed in t-shirts that say, "don't do drugs." No, really, I'm not kidding! So of course they think Zep and Queen lyrics backwards are all about drug use, and Britney Spears is trying to tell you she "isn't too young." Have they seen any of Britney's video's lately? I don't need to play the songs backwards to realize she trying to lure me with sex.

In plain English, these sites don't impress me. Find me a site that plays some Sex Pistols' music backwards. If it sounds anything like, "We have no talent and Sid's amp's is turned off," I'll be impressed. Very impressed!

Very well then, they don't have an agenda as I suspected. However, I stand by my other assertions.... trying to make sense out of slurred speech is ridiculous.... it's like reading your horoscope in the newspaper. Some of it may seem accurate, but in the end you know it's a joke.

on the subject of reversed songs, on the track "efil's dog", by the eels, the backing track is their earlier song life's good, reversed. Which is nice.
