Why do males have nipples?

Thats actually correct. Simplex is right. Every change between male and female has to be "manufactured" by the body from a female template. Think about it, even after changes have begun in the womb, kids before puberty are hardly different at all in build and strength. Male sex hormones kick in again at puberty and change all that.

We all start out as females as embryo's and then we change into males as the embryo grows. Nipples are just a byproduct.

Not only that, the masculinizing effects of testosterone (androgens) make the gonads differentiate into testes and then they descend from the same place the differentiated gonads (ovaries) remain in females, the labia closes and becomes the scrotum (thats why males have a vertical line in their scrotum)...the clitoris enlarges and becomes the penis. Basically the same thing, even though they look so different. In the absence, or insensitivity, of testosterone, the male fetus will be born with a pussy.

Male fetuses have female reproductive system ducts as well, but the SRY gene in the Y chromosome causes it to shut so that the male reproductive system can develop . So technically a male fetus can have a female reproductive system if SRY gene is manipulated, etc.

I remember learning that that in General Biology when I was in college. It kind of surprised me, but it's a fun fact to share with people that don't know. I think there was a guy who wrote a book about this, or at least as part of the marketing of his book.
