Its offensive to Nut tossers.

Now I dont know how many of you know the origins of the word, but the word cunt is actually a shortened version for an organization that started in the late 19th century;

The
Cantankerous
Union
of
Nut
Tossers

Who had a membership of over 100,000 worldwide. But soon this fine organisation fell into disrepute. During the 1930s and 40s the organization's leader Sir Perry Misterbone became indocrinated with certain fascistic ideals that ran throughout the group and tarnished their good name. Soon all members of this great group were known as "facist nut tossers" and a fun past time was created because of it. As soon as a sleeper member was found out he was taken outside onto the street and pelted with walnuts by the townsfolk.

Once his or her energy had faded a local merchant, usually the butcher would beat the nut tosser with a wooden stick or metal pole (if one could be found). Then the nut tosser would be decapitated in the towns square and their head would be shoved on a spike for all to see, and fear. This was common in most of western Europe and in the eastern United States.

But soon most people became tired of the term "nut tosser" because they found it to cumbersome to shout when savagely beating an individual. So one man, a great man in many's eyes a certain Mr Jeremy Potsmouth came up with the term "Cunt" by putting the first letters of the major words of the groups name together and soon the name stuck and word of its use spread all throughout the western world, where its use became common place.

After the war something happened, the term went out of fashion. You cannot blame people I'm sure it brought back some terrible memories, but nearly all the facist cunts were gone, so it was a time to rejoice and to put those dark days behind you.

Until the 60s were upon us, where for some reason and in some place some genius thought it would be funny to reintroduce the word back into civilised society. This time as a sexual slur against the opposite sex, now if this person truley knew the meaning we would have none of this foolishness but they didnt and here we are. I'm sure you can cut them some slack it was the "sexual revolution" and a whole new world was seemingly opening up. Looking back we can laugh but those poor souls actually thought they were changing the world. Poor cunts.

But we still have it with us today, the use of this term has not died. And its being used for the wrong reasons. But I dont know, what can I do? Nothing, the term has its place in our society now and its not going to go away, unless the youth of today are taught the true meaning of the word. But until then all is lost......

So, now that you know, dont do drugs.

Yes, I bribed and cheated to get this far
It's a bad word because it was collectively decided by society to be such. simple as that.

It offends people to hear it because it is often used in an insulting and disparaging way towards someone.

yes, the most obvious answer is the right one. Basically it's not so much the word itself, it's the fact that you are being demeaning towards someone that is the problem.

I think that it's kind of silly to be offended by words seperated from the context that motivates their use, but I also understand that some words will forever be associated with a negative use, even if they are not, and so the most respectful thing would be to not use them. I have a broad enough vocabulary, I don't need to limit myself to being a dick (or to being phallocentric).

(I mean I'll say it if Ashlee Adams wants me to, but I'm not going to say it to my grandmother and then be like "what's the big deal?")

Can any Dutch folk confirm whether cunt, in Dutch, means "cut" whereas cut, in Dutch, means "cunt" - I heard that somewhere.

I'm not aware that "cunt" exists in that spelling. However, we have kunt which is the "you" conjugation of the verb kunnen (can/to be able). Kunt is pronounced just like cunt and yes, it took me awhile to be able to say it with a straight face. :1orglaugh

Knip (knippen) is to cut or scissor. Yes, to scissor is evidently a term.
