Football is king in american. it is violent, high scoring and there are tons of action. also, there are only 16 games in the regular season. soccer is played in the fall and it just can't compete head to head with football. if soccer was a summer sport, competeing only against baseball, it would have a chance to be popular.

MLS does compete with baseball as its season begins in March and ends around November.

Because it's boring as hell to watch on TV unless you have some vested interest in a team. For me I only watch my national team play. Don't get me wrong the game is fun to play just boring as hell to watch.

Like baseball. Fun to play but like watching paint dry when it comes to actually watching it.
