The script was bad. Her characterization was bad. How she went about daily life and fit into the setting seemed pretty bad. The choice of actress was bad. I'm sure they probably would have screwed up her origin somehow also.
The idea to change the costume was just a horrendously stupid decision and rightfully derided, and even what they wanted to go with, as bad as it was, looked like a cheap Halloween knockoff itself. It was probably worse than all the other concerns above which were bad enough to not have the show on their own in my opinion. To add the costume fallout on top of that was beyond disaster.
True in an outside out of context way wearing what amounts to fancy one piece bikini and boots with a motif of the US flag seems corny and maybe impractical for a regular person to wear, and sure it would be half for eye candy, but who cares, because for one she's very iconic and two, SHE'S FREAKING WONDER WOMAN. She's supposed to look like that.
Them not taking the show was to the benefit of everybody. It's more of a mercy killing than anything. It's better to not have people see that disaster in the first place.
