Wow! A Quadrillion-Dollar Credit Card Bill

I'm too lazy to set a usertitle.
A North Texas man has a 17-figure credit card statement after a bank glitch resulted in an eye-popping charge.

This is what it looks like: $23,148,855,308,184,500.00.

Here’s how to say it: 23 quadrillion,148 trillion, 855 billion, 308 million, 184,000, 500 dollars.

It's more than 2,000 times the national debt -- and, according to Jon Seale's online credit card statement, it’s what he spent July 13 at Five Sixty by Wolfgang Puck.

You would think that some nimrod at the billing center would look and realize that one person can't spend 2,000 times the national debt of the United States at a restaurant. Gawd bless corporate Amrika!

Giggidy giggidy goo!
I knew the banks were in trouble and were going to raise interest rates to cover their f**k ups but I didn't realise it was that bad

Moving to a trailer in Fife, AL.
It was the plutonium-laced caviar appetizers he ordered to impress his date (some Arab chick)

Has now happened to thousands of people ...

This has now happened to thousands of people. These are just the first people who are getting their statements. It's estimated that up to 13,000 people are going to be hit.

The issue is with regards to UTF-8/ASCII string conversion and the leading spaces (20 hexadecimal, 32 decimal), are being interpreted as binary, hence the number.

Absolutely piss-poor coding practices, non-existent QA and, most likely, outsourced to the hilt. Welcome to the world I deal with every day. ;)

Corporate America at its finest.
Some of it, very much so. Some of the moronic people I've worked with, very likely.
