Is this something new to the world of online gaming? No,absolutely not. However its more and more prominent for some reason. I'm sitting there playing Uncharted2 multiplayer last night for a couple hours after I hooked up with a surround sound headset that gives you the chat function along with game sound. How is this relevant? Well, cause I never used to chat much with the public during online games till I got this headset. I would always just mute the players unless I know I'm playing with friends.

Long story short,I'd have to say 90% of the games I played last night included some exchange in racial slurs and insults. As soon as someone heard the voice of who they thought might be African American or Latin American the bullshit back and forth shit-talking started from start to finish during the game. N words, every four letter word in the book etc.

Im there to have fun and put reality on the back burner, I can do without having an earful of racial slurs between Caucasians,African Americans and Latin Americans while I'm playing a game. It was ludicrous. It just amazes me how people use the power of a microphone and the comfort that nobody knows their indentity to act like bad asses. Face to face these people would never have the nerve to let their mouth slip and say something as insulting as these phrases I heard last night.

Am I giving up on using my mic to chat during games? No, cause these words are meant to demoralize everyone who hears them and I wont fall victim. Am I gonna have less fun when playing? No, that would demoralize too. It is just a fucking shame thats all......

FreeOnes makes me moist!
this has been going on for years. ever since playing pc games on the net in the 90s i've been hearing that kind of shit.

guess i'm kinda numb to it now. i couldn't care less really. it seems at least half the people playing online games are assholes.

you get used to it.

I'm all into porn!
That's why I don't use my mic that often. There's to much immature bullshit that goes on. I especially hate the people that carry on a conversation with someone else in the room or play music. I was playing Burnout paradise once and this guy had on some music in the background and him and his buddy where rapping with it. I thought the whole point of in game chat was to CHAT with other people.

That's always going on which is why I don't use a mic unless it's with people on my friends list. Just recently I decided to use my mic in COD 4 and of course based on my gamertag "darkwarrior3007" decided to ask me if was black or not. Why this would make you wonder if I'm black or not is another matter but anyway I said "uh, yeah" and then the idiot says "black black or light black". I say "What does it matter?" He says " Relax I'm just asking a question." Everyone else says to him "Shut the hell up." Then the idiot decides to target me in the game as soon as it starts. What did I do? I shot him in the face, got my first kill and he left me alone the rest of the game. I've now started to mute people in Killzone 2 as well.

First time I ever played an online game being Halo 2 many years ago I had a 12 year old call me a douche because I got in his way when he tried to do something.

I thought, that is what makes up the majority of this kind of gaming. I am sure most of these online players range from 12-16, which would be the, possibly (?), instigators of trash talking. The age group of 20-30, they may or may not partake in the trash talk. If so, they might have this thought of, well, given my age I know better, but I am still going to trash talk back. However, given my age, I am not acting childish... "just giving it back."

And the rest is mute.

Of course this is but a little bit I think of online gamers. Generalization. Nothing personal.

I do not play online. That was first time. Perhaps I will come to playing online at some point in life. I don't know.

Bullshit. I don't sound black. I don't sound Jewish either. Yet I get called a "****** jew" a lot.

The point is, these people are doing it for their own lame kicks. Racism is funny to them. It's nothing personal. I wouldn't get so upset about it, just mute them.

Its not a matter of getting upset or having to get used to it or what have you,its just a plain shame to me. I worked food service all my life prior to the music industry so Ive heard it all and on a daily basis too,I'm kinda immune to it already at 34 years old. But what I do hate is when a younger kid is in the lobby with these idiots and he/she is subjected to that kind of racism at a young age. As far as age groups I believe the latest study has the average age of a gamer within the US at 32 years old, these idiots def had that age group or alittle younger in their tone of voice. If you dont wanna hear it than mute it absolutely. However if you're actually strategizing with a friend or the rare friendly stranger as to where people are on the map you're shit out of luck.

Thats why I hope the leaked news from that naughty dog dev about cross-game private and party chat in the next firmware update is true. It'll be like "if you cant go through 'em than go around 'em" so to speak.

The idiot targeted you at the start of the game? Thats very sad in its own way. The normal person logs on,gets into the game and does what he/she has to,to have fun. Why would someone actually forget whats going on around him at the start of a game and give himself special orders to go after you first because of your race? This person is a sad individual.

Oh yeah I forgot, and someone mentioned something like this in the thread here,it might have been whimsy or spleen I'm sorry, but anyways when there was no racial thing going on there was 2 dudes going on about the one dudes girlfriend problems........lol I'd rather hear that than the fights. You never know, you might run into some people you know and find out a hottie that lives in your town is single. Stranger things happen.

Wow thats sad, I have heard that sort of exchange over chat facilities in games but never heard insults being exchanged via audio like that. You know what if you do experience or otherwise observe that sort of behaviour report the motherfucker and hopefully get the shit heads banned for life!

I use every 4 letter word in the book when I play online. Of course I also use every 4 letter word in my day to day life as well, so not a stretch for me. The racial shit, I just shrug it off. I couldn't care less what these punk ass kids say. Funny thing is I've been called a n***** and I'm as white as a sheet of paper.

What bothers me is the amount of young kids who play online and cuss me out better than I could ever dream of doing to someone else. I just smile and start talking shit about their moms and how I'm probably their dad, and their mom is a fuckin whore, yada yada yada. That really sets em off! Just play their game. Make them madder than you are then its just funny!

Ive been out of the food service business for 3 years now and I still have the mouth of a chef. When you work in a kitchen 9 out of 12 words in a sentence are 4 letter words. Multiply that by 7 chefs on a busy night and you gotta lot of fucks, shits, asses, dickheads etc. getting thrown around the kitchen all at once. It can be an intense job no doubt depending on where you work. It kinda sticks with you for awhile after you're gone too. Cursing I dont care about, its just something about racial insults and fights that make it sad. Maybe because it happens so quick. Its like if they guessed you're African American or latino or you make it clear by starting something yourself than the fight is on right away. I'm white as a sheet of paper too..........I dont care what ethnicity you are its sad as a whole for everyone.

He literally said as the match was starting "I'm coming to get you Dark." The next thing I know he's the first guy I see coming at me. I'm surprised I got the head shot let alone get the shot off because I suck at FPS. Normally I have people on mute in COD 4 but I wanted to hear people in that match. Looks like I'm going to muting everybody in Modern Warfare 2 as well.

Yes, I bribed and cheated to get this far
I usually don't use the mic because, not hearing any racial slurs but all I've been playing is L4D for a while. I don't use the mic because I get tired of hearing little 11 year old kids acting like they're the coolest shit since shit was declared cool. So I usually just don't even bother with a headset of any kind

This is who is playing online games. Parents... they found something else to keep their kids busy and from having to parent.

I just listened to that. Wow: Super lousy parents indeed--as well as a lousy/bratty kid. I realize the types of genes that run in my family, and I openly dispise most kids and pets. As a result, I actively plan to never become a parent myself.

Basically decency and couth have all gone out the window. Especially with a lot of the younger generations.
