WWI/WWII type game

i have been totally watching Band of Brothers on HBO in HD...since when it was previously on it wasn't in HD....and now i get to experience it HD style :bowdown:
on my ride home from work today i got to thinking if there was a good...REAL GOOD World War I or II video game that didnt really suck.
i think i played just about everyone that has come out for the 1st gen and next gen systems just checking up to see if i missed any?
and i know most if not all are probably linear ...which i fucking hate.
anyone?

Battlefield 1942 if you are talking about a first-person shooter. If you want more of a strategic game, then I say go with Hearts of Iron II.

For a WWI game, you're shit out of luck, sadly. I don't think any developer has had big enough balls to try and turn that into a respectable game.

A world war RTS title would rock I would actually be interested in the genre then. Something that enabled you to play all Allies and Axis countries maybe even have it set up in a "what if" scenario where decisions could actually change the course of history etc. Like fatherland that book by robert harris.

And cause I am a really big geek and into the odd conspiracy theory we can even get into experimental units like the gerry's had stealth bombers in development

Oh and ya know the triangular UFOs....They aint UFOs they're USAF. The stealth bombers been obsolete for years and the ruskies got it from Yugoslavia.

^ I don't know about an rts, but in Hearts of Iron 2 you can play as any country that existed during WWII. Yes, even Afghanistan.

Medal of honor series was good on ps2,had one game on ps3 and 360. Call of duty 2 was a launch game for 360,that was a good shooter. Did you ever check out Brothers in arms? That series has games on ps2 and xbox I believe and then "BIA:hells highway" for 360 and ps3. That series kinda has a cult following.......

BIA Road to Hill 30 is one of my all-time favourites.
For WW1 there's the air force game Wings Of War.
(Both xbox in my case)

Went to the Gamestop near work and spent $50+ on a bunch of old used games the highest was like $14.99 a few were $2.99-$8.99 so if the games suck ill just toss em.
i bought:
Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 (xbox)
Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood (xbox)
Brothers in Arms: Hells Highway (x360) story which is the exact episode on last sundays Band of Brothers- Operation Market Garden
Call of Duty 2: Big Red One
Call of Duty 2
Call of Duty 3
Medal of Honor : Frontline

Earned in Blood is like a 2nd rate cash-in when compared to Road To Hill 30, although just as a game it's better than plenty of stuff.

I've got C.O.D. Finest Hour played about 15 min. didn't get into it, try again someday. Had MOH Frontline played about 20 min. then abandoned it, part exchanged back at shop.

yea thanks for those little insights... i may give them a bit longer of a chance but who knows i may have the same tastes as you and abandon only minutes in. good thing i didnt pay too much for these games. :nanner:

Call of Duty and Medal of Honor are the ones that come to mind. They are pretty linear, but I enjoy all of them.
