Xbox 360 Freezing

So I have been having this problem lately and I am not sure why.


My Xbox 360 has been freezing like crazy. It first started when I was playing Fallout 3 and now it happens all the time when my roommate plays the Force Unleashed. Now it sometimes freezes up when I start the thing up.

I don't get the ring of death so I am not sure why it freezes.

I do hook an external hard drive up to it via USB Cable and I watch movies on it from time to time.

I don't know any ideas or thoughts on how to fix this?

Try clearing you 360's hardrive cache. If that dont work then try someone else's hardrive to see if that fixes it straight up. There's problems with the 360hardrives.They make games sputter,lag and freeze over time for some reason.

Go to System settings > Memory > Device options. Tap x,x,LB,RB,x,x and storage maintenance will come up. Click Yes and this clears your 360's hardrive cache. You'll have to re-download game updates so dont get alarmed its not a prob................Hope it works for you.

If you do happen to have freezing issues and a RRoD does pop up you can use it to try and get Microsoft to fix the red ring issue as well as clear up the freezing problem. I had a similar issue a few months ago, sent mine in and got it back in new condition. No freezing, skipping or red rings.

All should try the clear cache thing, especially now since I'm hearing you're having trouble with Fallout3. When Oblivion came out, there was freezing issues and slow-ass load times that got worse after you played for awhile. The devs suggested that you clear the cache to help these 2 matters. Thats how everyone learned the button combo to clear the cache. Fallout3 is the same kinda game that relys on the slow ass 360 so try it, wont hurt...........lol

There has been a huge spike in X-Box games freezing since the release of the NXE last year. Microsoft has said it's working to solve the problem, but nothing has been released yet. Right now you can take steps to treat the symptoms of the bug, but you can't quite get rid of it.

tonight when i come home to possibly finish off FAllout3 DLC's
i found the cliffside grotto in Point lookout.... and now my system just locks the fuck up everytime.... even on start-up!
like when the giant XBOX green ball logo starts the system freezes there too!.

now i have a questions about the hard drive clear which i have done before a few times.
LACHEMO when i do this clear do i need to download the DLC's for Fallout3 all over again? or once i have them i have them permanantly?
and is there any updates by microsoft on LIVE that i can go get? or have to get? like an windows update for a PC... is there a specific section to go to on LIVE for "system updates"?
thanks and hopefully i can get an answer soon or im gonna toss my 360 out the fucking window if it keeps locking up!

I think when you clear your HDD cache the only thing that gets erased are the game updates , but it's not a big problem since they will get downloaded right back again the next time you play your games.

turned it on just a few minutes ago....RROD!!! and to be honest im actually not that mad, i knew it was going to happen some time sooner or later.

good thing i bought the PS3 a few weeks ago.its just too bad i don't have any of the new games i need to play for the PS3

Sorry to hear that bro and I'm sorry for not getting to you about the cache clear sooner. I guess it wouldnt have mattered anyways since your box froze for good. Just for GP, the DLC downloads will stay intact when you do a cache clear. Downloads such as DLC and arcade games go direct to hardrive. Game updates are stored to the hardrives cache. Thats why they clear when you do the hardrive maintenance. Its no biggy though cause when you pop a game back in it does the game update as if it were a newly released update.

Not too sure???? They might have changed things up since year 2 of the system. Since these flawed xbox's have become the biggest show on-line earth they might be expoditeing the shit out of the repairs.
I remember someone telling me they take their sweet ass time with it.

Im on my 4th system,but I had the replacement plan from the store on every one. They all died when they were still offering such a thing.It broke,I took it back to gamestop and they brought me out a brand new system.After the nightmare got worse they did away with the replacement plans and just extended the warranty.............Dude fuck investing more $$$ on 360 games. Go straight up ps3. Thats what ive been doing the last 6 months, until nhl10 comes out. Getting the 360 ver cause my friends play it on xbox.

I literally got mine back the next week. I've heard people getting it back a month after before, but mine was pretty snappy.

ok cool. guy at the local gamestop told me his friend was without his for 3 months, it took that long!
he could have been blowing smoke up my ass trying to get me to buy a new system,but why would i do that if i can just send the system in for a repaired one?
