XBOX360 game updates

Does anyone know or is there a way to find out what the update is when you put a game in 360 and it says there is an update for the game?
i decided to just run through my current games to see if there have been any updates and even though i have NHL10 when i place NHL09 in i got a game update found.
what could be updated on a game from 09? and why is there updates still for a game that the newest latest version of the game is out already and is months old? im guessing its patches for some of the games?

I bet the update is telling you to get the latest version of NHL,and that you can stop playing the old game now.

Actually,I don't own a 360 so I really wouldn't know.

a lot of cod updates were for glitches. hockey....idk but it could be updating the roster and making it all look better and that is their final update for that game.
