Tomb Raider was too ahead of its time for its own good. When it hit PS1 it was kinda groundbreaking. It was too ahead of its time cause it seemed like they blew that formula's load within 2 games and it got old after the 3rd game. The games in the ps2 and now this gen have been terrible. Years after the 1st one they stuck to that old formula and didnt add an ounce of new concepts or innovation????:dunno:
Thats why its a forgotten franchise that'll never be on the map now that Uncharted has taken over that genres reigns. Uncharted takes what tomb raider did, innovates and perfects it. Much better franchise.
Forgotten franchise?
The Tomb Raider series is arguably the most popular and succesful game series ever created.
Tomb Raider 1 is one of the best selling games of all time.
Tomb Raider series are more succesful and more popular than all the Devil May Cry bullshit,Ninja Gaiden crap and God of War rubbish combined.
All Tomb Raider's were/are bestsellers apart from maybe Tomb Raider The Angel of Darkness, that game was rushed to debut on the PS 2.
Tomb Raider Legend on PS2 was one of the best games ever, graphics wise and gameplay,it got an almost perfect score.
What happen to Tomb Raider was that they wanted the game to be more action packed and not adventure driven.
So after Tomb Raider 1 they made Lara have bigger weapons and fighting more bad guys than raiding tombs, the majority of fans obviously liked it,because EVERY single Tomb Raider copies thereafter sold millions.
But the critics bashed it,saying it was getting old and repetitive, then came 'button mashing' games like God Of War and Devil May Cry which had improved graphics and no storyline,so everyone jumped on the band wagon.
I have been collecting Tomb Raider from PS 1 days, and will continue collecting the games. No game has set the standards that Tomb Raider has set, none.
