Allowing teachers and other civil servants to unionize was a mistake. Their desire for more pay and benefits seem to be of greater concern to them than the welfare and actual education of children. Case in point; the teacher in Montana who raped a fourteen year old student, who later killed herself. Even after a confession, the teachers' union continued intercession on his behalf. The insidiousness of the unions and their attempts to indoctrinate children sickens me. And this is no joking matter, considering my mother is a retired teacher.

also many of these teaches that have tenure attended universities that are no better and sometimes worse than the ones the children go to and that have comfortable salaries. This is in my opinion unacceptable

Times change and the pendulum swings. It is time to change.

Teachers in too many states are shielded from the economy and free market. I live on Long Island where it s especially corrupt. Kindergarten teachers are making well over $100,000 a year for 9-10 months of work. They retire with 75% of pay and benefits for life. This is the result of unions negotiating with politicians.

There are some great teachers out there, but I also know there are many who just coast. A couple in Nassau County that is a cop and a grammar school teacher can both be retired at 50 and be living off of their pensions better than most working couples that are actively working.

It is evolved into a corrupt state.
