hey guys...I hope this post finds you well this March morning. I have been wanting to post a "Foodie" thread for a while so here goes.

I travel a lot and get exposed to a lot of different types of cuisine. I honestly no longer have a favorite food. When you are able to experience so much culinary varieties it makes it impossible to have one favorite, in my opinion.

Southern Indian food in London is fucking amazing. So different than the Indian food we are used to here in the US.

Meat Pies in Australia and New Zealand are unreal. Chicken Curry meat pie or Mince Meat pie. Awesome!

Pumpkin Risotto or Duck Ragu with Pappardelle pasta in Northern Italy.

Roast Duck and potatoes or just a simple ham and cheese on baguet in France

Tappas in Barcelona with Paella that would make Estelle Costanza proud!

Shepards Pie with a really cold Guiness in the English countryside!

Fried white anchovies in vinegar in Sicily that make you rethink your entire life.

Jerk pork slow roasted in Jamaica so spicy and bursting with flavor you think about it for days afterward.

Tangine beef with cabbage in Morocco with Moroccan cookies with a macaroon-like texture and crisp crust.

A bratwurst with saur kraut in Berlin at 3am with an amazing stein of beer. So simple yet so fucking good!

So as you can see I love good food. I love to be surprised by something I never thought I would like. Now I'm not a person who eats bull testicles or any of that crazy shit. But I mean like a sauce I never thought I would like or a sandwich that just doesn't sound good! lol I recently had a cocktail that had Rosemary in it that was fucking GREAT! Who woulda thought it?

Here are some of my favorite meals I have had recently with photos :)

I made this at home all on the grill - Prime Filet medium rare - roasted corn - clams grilled so they steam in their own juices! - Dunegoness Crab - wedge salad w/ blue cheese

I made this one also - Chicken Curry with Sticky Rice and some scallions on top

At a restaurant in the Old City in Nice, France I had these prawns which were the size of lobsters and they were served with truffle potatoes slow cooked in the drippings from roasting chickens and were awesome!
news-151_thumb.jpg

On a train stop in Ventimeglia where I went to this highly recommended little cafe and had their onion soup which was fucking amazing!
news-155_thumb.jpg

How fucking good does THIS look? In Milan I had this pizza fire baked and a great bottle of wine!
news-159_thumb.jpg

And to DIE FOR is the simple but fantastic lamb ragu with pappardelle pasta in Verona Italy!

And the above mentioned Pumpkin Risotto

I am a failure to the Korean side of my family
If you like Unique sweets try some Korean fair like Chocolate covered sunflower seeds, buns filled with sweet red bean paste, and Matdongsan a pretzel covered in syrup and roasted peanuts.

Mariah - I must marry you so you can either cook this amazing food for me (with my help of course, I'm not going to just sit by and wait), or so I can and have an excuse to travel with you when you go to these places.

Authentic wood-fired pizza and pesto in Italy can't be beat, I've tried. Same with Romanian food, like sarmale, cozonac, and the most awesome brandy I ever had, palinca.

I'm too lazy to set a usertitle.
How adventurous are you with food? Would you eat something that wasn't part of what Westerners would consider safe? I mean things like chicken feet, pig blood sausage, or cow brains.

Pussy, pussy, where are you?
Let me tell you about good eating.

Last Monday, I had lunch at El Cap in St Petersburg. Their cheeseburger is made with the finest brahma beef, imported from Tampa, and fried to a delicious consistency. It is served on a white bread bun that has been well-basted and grilled in butter. This masterpiece is completed with fromage Americain, and then topped with a variety of fresh vegetables, including crisp field greens, sweet onions imported from Vidalia, and juicy tomatoes plucked fresh sometime this spring from the fields of Ruskin. This sumptuous entree is accompanied by a generous serving of pommes frites, golden fried, with a fine dipping sauce made from crushed tomatoes. I'm not sure what the recipe is for this dipping sauce, but it is divine, and served in small packets.

The whole meal was completed with a refreshing carbonated beverage made from the kola leaves of east africa, sweetened with pure cane sugar (I think...I can only assume that this was the case, as the beverage was so sweet).

Dude, I'd love to join you, but over the past couple years I've developed an intermittent allergy to shrimp. Normally nothing happens, but I've broken out in hives, have experienced swelling, have gotten itches all over my body, and, in the worst episode so far, a mild asthmatic reaction. I love shrimp, but I've decided that I can hold off from eating it if means my air passage isn't gonna collapse. It really sucks. :(

Thank you. My review of El Cap leaves out many details, of course. The ambience of the restaurant is matched only by Mel's Hot Dogs in Tampa. Upon arrival, one is greeted by a setting that could only be described as "retro-biker." On this particular occasion, it was very busy, which of course means that this is a popular place. This IS not due to their prices...if you have to ask how much the cheeseburger is at El Cap, you don't want to eat there. No, their 1.99 cheeseburger is a tribute to a throwback virtue....provide an edible meal at the appropriate price, and people will drive from New Tampa to feast at your table.

Apparently the maitre'd was not working on my visit, as I was asked by the fine staff to seat myself. I chose a table that had luckily been wiped down recently...ah, the joys of a clean table freshly wiped down with the rag of the working man evoked a feeling of dining in a Route 66 diner circa 1979.

I perused the menu, charmingly printed on, and doubling as, the placemat that I would use to eat my coming gastric delight. Many choices greeted me, including their "onion rings" which looked especially delightful piled on the plate of the table next to me. These patrons truly seemed to in heaven gnoshing on these, presented in with more throwback fashion using paper plates.

The service was impeccable. My waitress was business-like and to the point, not wasting any words as she asked what number I wanted to order. My carbonated beverage was re-filled immediately upon my third request, and I was provided as much mayonaisse as I needed to season my entree. El Cap takes all major credit cards, except American Express, Visa, Master Card, Discover, and Diner's Club, the latter truly surprising me.

Mariah, if you would like to accompany me on my next restaurant visit to help me review it, I am considering going to Havana Village in Tampa. It is truly fine Cuban cuisine, located at the quaint corner of Dale Mabry and Kennedy.

I'm watching some specialist videos
I love good food, but often find that if you are dieting and go out that there is very little that you can get by on.
There is always the salad, but even that is not much use if you are on low carb/high protein, and even then half the time it comes with high calorie dressing.
I have been on the Dukan diet for a couple of months and lost 2 stone so far (i.e. 28lbs or abound 13Kg).
There is no need to stint on taste, though, and here are a couple of things that I cooked recently.
First is a breakfast of dill scrambled eggs with smoked salmon.

This is Salmon en Papillote with courgette (zucchini), mushrooms, cherry tomato and prawns (shrimp).

I don't have problems with other shellfish. It's just shrimp that fuck with me sometimes. I've had shrimp twice this past week with no problems, but I always keep my fingers and toes crossed.

I've found that I just have to moderate myself when I go out to eat. Yeah, some places like Cheesecake Factory and Claim Jumper have no diet-friendly food whatsoever, but you can still moderate your portions. Since December I've lost 20 pounds, yet I've semi-regularly gone out to eat. I've been using an Android app called My Fitness Pal to help me keep track of my caloric intake, exercise, weight, etc., and so far it's working great.
