Police: He's not racist, he was just having "a really bad day"

We have a police officer on trial for killing someone who passed a counterfeit bill. Here, a murderer is 'safely detained'. A little rough handling would have been in order here.

Or a white guy who just murdered 8 people, armed & dangerous who lead police on a highway chase, somehow gets arrested without a scratch. Funny how that works out.

In my misspent youth I once thought I would want to be a police officer. 50 years ago. I took a test, passed it and the interview. Then came the physiological exam. Not so good. Of course no one else who was on the list must have passed either as the city was advertising another test a few months later. Still now looking back i am glad I did not get hired. Even though i would have been retired 20 years ago the changes even then would have been difficult to process.

I can agree. In a country like the US where there is a very good chance that someone has a gun, the stress that must be involved just approaching someone suspicious must be morale-breaking. I can sympathize with that, and if an officer is cautious, I can understand. Now there are so many more rules & norms you have to follow.

Of course, that doesn't excuse you when you have an unarmed guy cuffed & on the ground, but I think there's a pretty clear line between those situations.

The line-up gets longer. No physical violence, but apparently verbal sparring occurred:

It's starting to concern me that almost all of the post-Atlanta incidents caught on tape (see this thread) have black perpetrators. The exception is that tweeker that got pounded by that grandma. I'd like to think that not all anti-Asian incidents are committed by blacks, so is there a bias by the media or is there something else going on?

At the last time I looked, Blacks are Human too. Humans want someone to blame for their problems and want to be part of the Tribe. Just because Blacks(and Browns) have been shit on for 400 years or so doesn't mean they are immune to this behavior. Thankfully except in Mob situations this is not the norm, or at least yet.

No idea. This will surprise almost no one, but the nature of the attackers depends on who is doing the talking.
https://www.voanews.com/usa/anti-asian-hate-crime-crosses-racial-and-ethnic-lines

  • A sociology professor: [While] noting that most hate crime perpetrators tend to be white, “other communities have modeled their attacks on what we white folks have been doing for a long time now.”
  • Michelle Malkin (right-wing Asian commentator): "The recent crime wave against Asians in America's big cities is not the fault of Donald Trump, MAGA activists, conservative talk radio, or white people. It's the fault of the perpetrators and the perpetrators alone — most of whom happen to be thugs 'of color.'"

Women and old people according to picture and video evidence.

I had a talk with my wife long ago way before the attacks about how to protect herself. A gun is not practical for her. She’s too nice to take a person’s life. We agreed on pepper spray as she would be able to incapacitate a person so she could flee and hail campus police.

I think it's natural for us as humans to want to have the least amount of connection or similarity to any of these maniacs. Whenever there is a mass shooting I hope it's not a White guy but statistics indicate there is a real good chance of it. The weird folks are the ones hopeful and eager that it is someone from their race.

TVSTRIP, I don't know what race you are but, if I can have an opinion on you as an individual, I've always found you to be a good guy who cares and wants life to be better for everyone. We can't change some people but we can have a positive effect on our own lives. You're good. I'm good. Gmase and Bubb are good.

Again with the "When i was Young stuff" We used to say, Pick on someone your own size to Bully's. It says a lot about these Assholes when they attack Kids and old folks. doesn't it?

Thank you, and I echo your thoughts 💯%. As a POC, I have personally experienced racism, both before and during this pandemic, so admittedly I can get triggered when some events hit close to home. A lot of my work deals with racism, discrimination and even actual persecution on an international level, so every day I'm reading about the worst that humanity has to offer. It's weird in that it has made me both more jaded and sensitive to these issues at the same time, if that makes any sense.

It's a little ironic that here on a forum on a porn website that literally has a warning about heated discussion, I'm finding some of the most level headed discussion by really compassionate people. While I can't discuss the specifics of my job on the internet, I wouldn't want to anyways, looking at the vitriol that gets spewed everywhere from other message boards to comment sections. This is one of the few places where I actually feel comfortable talking about this stuff. And that is a testament to all the users & admin here.🤟

I appreciate you being here as a person of color. We need your perspective. It is necessary that we have open and honest dialogue between the races to have better relations and end racism together. As Americans we also really need to stick together and not allow others to divide us. We can still have our disagreements but it's how we communicate those disagreements to each other in a civil and respectful manner that is important.

I also agree it is weird or coincidental that the political section has been peaceful the past couple weeks.

As an Old White man I can try to intellectually understand the problems that other races go through. What I cannot now and never will truly understand is the emotional
issues involved. I can try to place myself in their shoes but they will never fit.

True, but I think it means a lot that you're trying. In the same way a man who respects women is always going to be better than a misogynist. Being aware and educated of the issues is going to be infinitely better than being ignorant to them, or even worse, being part of the problem. Many POC don't want to raise the issue because they don't think it will make a difference, so when non-POC are receptive to listening to their side, it opens the door to true dialogue. (y)
