Your Best Song (with lyrics)

Violator79

Take a Hit, Spunker!
I know we've covered music, but not songs in general. What's the best song you got? Mine is Pulp's masterpiece Common People. Best. Song. Ever.

She came from Greece she had a thirst for knowledge, she studied sculpture at Saint Martins College, that's where I caught her eye. She told me that her dad was loaded, I said "In that case I'll have a rum and coca-cola, she said "Fine" and in 30 seconds time she said "I want to live like common people, I want to do whatever common people do, I want to sleep with common people, I want to sleep with common people like you". Well what else could I do, I said "I’ll see what I can do." I took her to a supermarket, I don’t know why but I had to start it somewhere, so it started there. I said 'Pretend you’ve got no money’, but she just laughed and said "Oh you’re so funny", I said "Yeah. Well I can’t see anyone else smiling in here." Are you sure you want to live like common people, you want to see whatever common people see, you want to sleep with common people, you want to sleep with common people like me. But she didn’t understand, she just smiled and held my hand. Rent a flat above a shop, cut your hair and get a job. Smoke some fags and play some pool, pretend you never went to school. But still you’ll never get it right ‘cos when you’re laid in bed at night watching roaches climb the wall, if you called your dad he could stop it all. You’ll never live like common people, you’ll never do whatever common people do, you’ll never fail like common people, you’ll never watch your life slide out of view, and dance and drink and screw, because there’s nothing else to do. Sing along with the common people, sing along and it might just get you through. Laugh along with the common people, laugh along even though they’re laughing at you and the stupid things that you do, because you think that poor is cool. Like a dog lying in a corner they will bite you and never warn you. Look out they’ll tear your insides out. 'Cos everybody hates a tourist, especially one who thinks it’s all such a laugh and the chip stains and grease will come out in the bath. You will never understand how it feels to live your life with no meaning or control and with nowhere left to go. You are amazed that they exist and they burn so bright whilst you can only wonder why. Rent a flat above a shop, cut your hair and get a job. Smoke some fags and play some pool, pretend you never went to school. Still you’ll never get it right ‘cos when you’re laid in bed at night watching roaches climb the wall, if you called your dad he could stop it all. You’ll never live like common people, you’ll never do what common people do, you’ll never fail like common people, you’ll never watch your life slide out of view, and dance and drink and screw because there’s nothing else to do. I want to live with common people like you, etc.

Man Slut

Search Function? What's that?
Great Song Violator. My current fave song is a bit morbid. Originally by the Bee Gees, but I like the Faith No More version anyday. Its called "I started a Joke".

I STARTED A JOKE

I started a joke,
Which started the whole world crying,
But I didn't see that the joke was on me, oh no.

I started to cry,
Which started the whole world laughing,
Oh, if I'd only seen that the joke was on me.

I looked at the skies,
Running my hands over my eyes,
And I fell out of bed,
Hurting my head from things that I'd said.

Til I finally died,
Which started the whole world living,
Oh, if I'd only seen that the joke was on me.

I looked at the skies,
Running my hands over my eyes,
And I fell out of bed,
Hurting my head from things that I'd said.

'Til I finally died,
Which started the whole world living,
Oh, if I'd only seen that the joke was one me.

Take a Hit, Spunker!
Man Slut, I listened to that song I Started a Joke. Little too morbid for me. Not a bad song though. Now Common People, lol I have about 10 versions of it, and some are hard to find. My favorite song ever if you can't tell.

Well I really might seem retarded
But I really want to see you again
I want nothing but to be your friend
So I can see you again

If I feel a bit disregarded
Don't think I need you to attend
Or you to condescend
So I can see you again

Hey, I think like a fool
That you can trust your friends
Or you can fuck your friends
But I don't

Like an overweight karate
kid you could moonwalk over my heart
Using candour as painkiller
tastes like vanilla to me
occasionally

Someone please make go home,
I'm the worst at being alone
Just tell me I ought to watch
infomercials for love,
and buy all of their trust

Saturdays have shown us I'm not
the world's most talkative guy
You say it's fine
but I can always try and answer
with amplified anger,
then cry inside

Someone please make go home, I'm
the worst at being alone
just tell me I ought to watch
infomercials for love,
and buy all of their trust

My, my, my, my you really fetch my bone

Still watching the sky.Ain't sure of you yet

just moving down the line
no time to fail, no time to fail
no time for anything @ all

stay out of jail

sit facing the door
just facing the street
city boorn,ripped and torn
still turning tricks
enough to make you sick
just passing the buck
you might be real bad luck
no time to fail, no time to fail
no time for anything @ all

stay out of jail

can't see you right now
we ain't got the time
bad news, stand accused
a fool in drag, got your nose in a bag
whacked out of your head
yall remmember what i said
no time to fix
no time to bail
no time for one last call

stay out of jail

Sutty

Banned
Comfort in Sound by Feeder, written after the suicide of their drummer

We fall right in and suffer the sins
Try to pull things round when the air starts to thin
We nurse regrets, restricted in our own belief
A new disease

We shake new hands, the victims of fate
We tread new ground misfortune conveys
You tear yourself apart
Wishing to be born again
A different man

[Chorus:]
Comfort in sound
Its all around
Ease back the strain
Come heal your pain
Comfort in sound
Its all around you now

Comfort in sound

We suffer love together as one
An empty heart with nowhere to turn
We find ourselves looking back another way
A brand new day

Comfort in sound
Its all around
Ease back the strain
Come heal your pain
Comfort in sound
Its all around you now

Solution gone, emotions ablaze
A life so strong just faded away
You find yourself searching for a quick release
A new belief

What am I doing here?
My fave song at the moment (always changing anyway)

Baz Luhrman-Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)

Ladies and Gentlemen of the class of ’99
Wear Sunscreen.
If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be
it. The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by
scientists whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable
than my own meandering experience…
I will dispense this advice now.

Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth;
oh nevermind; you will not understand the power and
beauty of your youth until they have faded.
But trust me, in 20 years you’ll look back at photos of yourself
and recall in a way you can’t grasp now how much possibility lay before
you and how fabulous you really looked….
You are not as fat as you imagine.

Don’t worry about the future; or worry, but know that worrying is as
effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubblegum.
The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that
never crossed your worried mind;
the kind that blindside you at 4pm on some idle Tuesday.

Do one thing everyday that scares you

Sing

Don’t be reckless with other people’s hearts,
don’t put up with people who are reckless with yours.

Floss

Don’t waste your time on jealousy;
sometimes you’re ahead, sometimes you’re behind…
the race is long, and in the end, it’s only with yourself.

Remember the compliments you receive, forget the insults;
if you succeed in doing this, tell me how.

Keep your old love letters, throw away your old bank statements.

Stretch

Don’t feel guilty if you don’t know what
you want to do with your life…
the most interesting people I know didn’t know at 22
what they wanted to do with their lives,
some of the most interesting 40 year olds I know still don’t.

Get plenty of calcium.

Be kind to your knees, you’ll miss them when they’re gone.

Maybe you’ll marry, maybe you won’t,
maybe you’ll have children,maybe you won’t,
maybe you’ll divorce at 40,
maybe you’ll dance the funky chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary…
what ever you do, don’t congratulate yourself
too much or berate yourself either –
your choices are half chance, so are everybody else’s.
Enjoy your body,
use it every way you can…
don’t be afraid of it, or what other people think of it,
it’s the greatest instrument you’ll ever own..

Dance…even if you have nowhere to do it but in your own living room.

Read the directions, even if you don’t follow them.

Do NOT read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel ugly.

Get to know your parents,
you never know when they’ll be gone for good.

Be nice to your siblings;
they are the best link to your past
and the people most likely to stick with you in the future.

Understand that friends come and go,
but for the precious few you should hold on.
Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and lifestyle
because the older you get,
the more you need the people you knew when you were young.

Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard;
live in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft.

Travel.

Accept certain inalienable truths,
prices will rise,
politicians will philander,
you too will get old,
and when you do you’ll fantasize that when you were young
prices were reasonable,
politicians were noble
and children respected their elders.

Respect your elders.

Don’t expect anyone else to support you.
Maybe you have a trust fund,
maybe you have a wealthy spouse;
but you never know when either one might run out.

Don’t mess too much with your hair,
or by the time you're 40, it will look 85.

Be careful whose advice you buy, but,
be patient with those who supply it.
Advice is a form of nostalgia,
dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal,
wiping it off,
painting over the ugly parts and recycling
it for more than it’s worth.

But trust me on the sunscreen.

Iron and Stone

Made the sinners cry
He oped up his sky
The rivers ran with blood
The deserts name was love

Said who can not be saved
Soul of a man is much depraved
Don't act as if you are his clone
Made of iron and of stone

Justice swept the land
To raise the mortal made
And when he overcome
The war has just begun

As the darkness spreads across his land
Soul of man who stays his hand
Forms the basis of his home
Made of iron and of stone

When it came the time
To confess his crime
The people stood and stared
And didn't even care

And the morning had died
The millions knew that there was no lie
Temple was built and the worshiping showed
Made of iron and of stone

Wow, there are so many good songs out there, so i will be unable to pick just one, but i will post the ones i enjoy. Keep on rockin and rollin!!

Staind "So Far Away"

this is my life
its not what it was before
all these feelings i've shared
and these are my dreams
that i'd never lived before
somebody shake me
cuz i
i must be sleeping

[chorus]
now that we're here,
it's so far away
all the struggle we thought was in vain
in all the mistakes,
one life contained
they all finally start to go away
now that we're here its so far away
and i feel like i can face the day i can forgive
and i'm not ashamed to be the person that i am today

these are my words
that i've never said before
i think i'm doing okay
and this is the smile
that i've never shown before

somebody shake me cuz i
i must be sleeping

[chorus]

i'm so afraid of waking
please don't shake me
afraid of waking
please don't shake me

[chorus]

Freeones is my God
Coldplay- A Rush of Blood To the Head

He said I'm gonna buy this place and burn it down
I'm gonna put it six feet underground
He said I'm gonna buy this place and watch it fall
Stand here beside me baby in the crumbling walls

Oh I'm gonna buy this place and start a fire
Stand here until I fill all your heart's desires
Because I'm gonna buy this place and see it burn
And do back the things they did to you in return

Ah, ah, ah
He said Oh I'm gonna buy a gun and start a war
If you can tell me something worth fighting for
Oh I'm gonna buy this place is what I said
Blame it upon a rush of blood to head

(And) honey
All the movements your starting to make
See me crumble and fall on my face
And I know the mistakes that I made
See it all disappear without a trace
And they call as they beckon you on
They say start as you mean to go on
Start as you mean to go on

He said I'm gonna buy this place and see it go
Stand here beside me baby watch the orange glow
Some'll laugh and some just sit and cry
But you just sit down then you wonder why

So I'm gonna buy a gun and start a war
If you can tell me something worth fighting for
And I'm gonna buy this place is what I said
Blame it upon a rush of blood to the head
ah to the head, oh

(And) honey
All the movements you're starting to make
See me crumble and fall on my face
And I know the mistakes that I made
See it all disappear without a trace
And they call as they beckon you on
They say start as you mean to go on

As you mean to go on, as you mean to go on

So meet me by the bridge, meet me by the lane
When am I gonna see that pretty face again
Meet me on the road, meet me where I said

Blame it all upon
A rush of blood to the head

Radiohead-Creep

When you were here before,
couldn't look you in the eye.
You're just like an angel,
your skin makes me cry.
You float like a feather,
in a beautiful world
I wish I was special,
you're so fucking special.

But I'm a creep, I'm a weirdo.
What the hell am I doing here?
I don't belong here.

I don't care if it hurts,
I want to have control.
I want a perfect body,
I want a perfect soul.
I want you to notice,
when I'm not around.
You're so fucking special,
I wish I was special.

But I'm a creep, I'm a weirdo.
What the hell am I doing here?.
I don't belong here

She's running out the door,
she's running,
she run, run, run, run, run.

Whatever makes you happy,
whatever you want.
You're so fucking special,
I wish I was special,

but I'm a creep, I'm a weirdo.
What the hell am I doing here?
I don't belong here,
I don't belong here.

"Mad World", originally done by Tears For Fears, but also sung by Gary Jules for the movie soundtrack to "Donnie Darko".

All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for their daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere
And their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow
No tommorow, no tommorow
And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
'Cos I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very
Mad World
Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday
Made to feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen, sit and listen
Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me, no one knew me
Hello teacher tell me what's my lesson
Look right through me, look right through me

Pink Floyd, "Time"(one of my favorite songs of all time)

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day, fritter and waste the hours in an off hand way, kicking around on a piece of ground in your hometown, waiting for someone or something to show you the way, time is lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain, but you are young and life is long, and there is time to kill today, and then one day you find, ten years have got behind you, no one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun,
(guitar solo)
...and you run and you run to catch up to the sun but it's sinking, racing around to come up behind you again, the sun is the same in a relative way but you're older, shorter of breath, and one day closer to death, every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time, plans that either come to naught, or half a page of scribbled lines, hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way, the time is gone, the song is over, thought i had something more to say...?
Home, home again, i like to be here when i can, and when im cold, cold and tired, it's good to warm my bones beside the fire, far away across the field, the tolling of the iron bell, calls the faithful to their knees, to hear the softly spoken magic spell...

Porno for Pyros, "Pets"

Children are innocent
a teenager's fucked up in the head
adults are even more fucked up
and elderlies are like children
will there be another race
to come along and take over for us?
maybe martians could do
better than we've done
we'll make great pets!
my friend says we're like the dinosaurs
only we are doing ourselves in
much faster than they
ever did
we'll make great pets!

Depeche Mode, "Enjoy the Silence"

Words like violence
Break the silence
Come crashing in
Into my little world
Painful to me
Pierce right through me
Can't you understand
Oh my little girl

All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm

Vows are spoken
To be broken
Feelings are intense
Words are trivial
Pleasures remain
So does the pain
Words are meaningless
And forgettable

All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm

SiliconeTits, by alternate version do you mean the one from Donnie Darko? I really enjoy both versions, but i would have to say i enjoy the Gary Jules version better because, well, its so poignant, and heartfelt, especially if you seen the movie Donnie Darko, it fits so well. Keep on rockin and rollin!!
