Toward the end of her life she became bedridden as a result of complications from lupus, scleroderma, and osteoporosis.
Vitale grew up in New Jersey with six brothers and sisters.
She had a very wholesome childhood and was close to her maternal grandparents.
When she turned 18, she and a friend moved to Florida to pursue modeling careers.
Vitale found work right away posing for Oldsmobile and was a finalist in the Miss Florida-World contest.
