Anatomy for Beginners.

Just wondering how many of the British members here have been watching this programme on Channel 4.

Despite the rather gruesome viewing I have to say that I have found it very interesting and informative.

For those who have not seen it the general idea is to teach the viewer basic anatomy/biology/working of the human body by performing real autopsies on television.

The part when the German surgeon cut open the trachea made me hurl  especially with the sound it made, it showed us how fragile we actually are really. i've carried out disection before on a pigs heart in A level biology but that was an actual human being literally cut open like a ripped bag, it does seem inhumaine but if the person concented and it helps people who suffer from the lung disorder he had then it's cool, i heard that in the next episode they take out his brain and show you how that ticks.

I thought it was fascinating viewing but it will no doubt get complaints as you dont see that kind of thing everyday. The part where he (the surgeon) pumped blood into the intestines to show the arteries was very interesting and showed just how complicated even the slightest little area of the human body is, it was quite alot to comprehend but it was quality tv, keep up the good work channel 4

Though I haaven't a way of watching the BBC (Channel 4) presentation, I have watched many such programs... very similar, in fact, to what you're describing, Mr. Miyagi.

I will have to admit that I find it somewhat disturbing to watch, but I can't help but to also admit that I am completely fascinated by these types of shows. While the imagery may be gruesome to view, I would think more people - especially those in the medical fields - would benefit from watching something similar.

The human body is a very complex "machine" (and I used that word very loosely... drawing a blank at any other words currently) and we would all benefit if we were to learn more about biology, anatomy, physiology, and the like.

IMHO, as always.

Excellent post, sir... :hatsoff:

The funny thing is that they do this in front of a live studio audience. Watching on TV is not too bad but the facial expressions on some of the live audience is hilarious. As DD said, some of the sounds are awful. For me it was pretty bad when he was cutting open the ribcage.

As you say QBall, as difficult as it is, it is indeed compelling viewing and IMO an excellent step forward from the dark old days of "safe" censured television.

He was saying the rib cage is so sharp he could easily damage himself (i learnt alot) :lmao: Some of the audience where really sadistic and lovin' it and the others just wanted to puke.

the bit i found amazing was at the start when he skinned the body. i was amazed that he did it so easily and then hung the whole skin up on the hanger in one piece.

I can use Pornography in a sentence!
I saw some of the one episode when they were doing the heart & lungs.

When they started cutting the body & peeling away the skin I really didn't want to be watching - but my curiousity got the better of me. Didn't like the sound when he was cutting through the ribs with what looked like a pair of garden secateurs much.

Very gruesome program, but educational with it. Definitely not for the squeamish

Never argue with a fool. People might not know the difference.
I've dissected a brain before :) Was very interesting and I think that I would watch a show like that...

They have shown something quite similar, actually... I live here in Texas and I know I've watched the program - and several similar documentaries - several times.

I can't remember what station I saw it on last year, but I know for sure it was one of the following:

> Discovery (Discovery Health)

> National Geographic

> TLC (though they specialize in "fixer-upper" shows, I have seen quite a few medical-related programs on there as well.

Try checking the web-sites for each. They usually list their programming.
