Paris stabbing: Hooded Isis-supporter shouting 'It is for Daesh' stabs nursery school teacher in the throat

The teacher was attacked at the Jean Perrin d’Aubervilliers school with a box cutter

A hooded man shouting allegiance to Isis has stabbed a nursery school teacher in the throat in his Paris classroom.

The attack, which happened a month and a day after the jihadist massacres in France, took place before children arrived at a state nursery school in Aubervilliers, just north of the Paris city boundary.

Police, who are treating the incident as a terrorist attack, said that the teacher had been stabbed in the throat and stomach by scissors and a box-cutter. He was taken to hospital but his life is not in danger.

An eyewitness told police that he had heard the attacker shout; “It is for Daesh, It is a warning.”

Daech is the Arabic acronym for Islamic State. The jihadist group has been warning on social media that French schools might be the next target after the shootings and suicide bombings in the Paris area on 13 November in which 130 people were murdered.

The attack took place at around 7am on Monday in the northern Parisian suburb of Aubervilliers.

The teacher has been taken to hospital but has not suffered life-threatening injuries, according to French media.

Paris prosecutor's office spokeswoman Agnes Thibault-Lecuivre said anti-terrorism authorities are looking into the incident.

Le Parisien reports that an investigation has been opened by anti-terrorist police into attempted murder in connection with a terrorist enterprise over the attack.

France is still under a state of emergency following the 13 November terror attacks in which 130 people were murdered in the capital.

The unknown attacker reportedly armed himself with weapons he found in the classroom. He is understood to have been hooded, masked and wearing gloves.

He is currently on the run, reportedly armed with the box cutter and a pair of scissors.

PARIS (AP) — A preschool teacher who claimed to have been attacked by a masked assailant invoking Islamic State made up the story, French prosecutors said Monday.

The attack reported Monday morning by the teacher set off a manhunt in the northern Paris suburb of Aubervilliers.

Both the Paris prosecutor's office and the local prosecutor said the teacher was being questioned Monday afternoon, and that the story about the attack had been based on his testimony.

The false report comes as France remains under a state of emergency after the Nov. 13 attacks in Paris by Islamic State-linked extremists that left 130 people dead and hundreds wounded. A few weeks later, IS urged its followers to attack teachers in France, saying the secular education system was poisoning young minds.
