COVID-19: Canada ‘likely at the start’ of new wave of infections
https://globalnews.ca/video/9917284/covid-19-canada-likely-at-the-start-of-new-wave-of-infections

The turn comes after months of low transmission of the virus, which continues to mutate and has recently spawned two variants — EG.5, a subvariant of Omicron, and BA.2.86 — that have captured the attention of scientists.

Let's see how people react to this. I feel complacency is going to be the real killer.

I just returned from a two-week vacation to the Southwest of the US. EVERYWHERE I went, I saw people with masks on. Not 50%, but also not rare to see them. Say, 10% to 33% were masked? In: NM, AZ, UT and CO.

That's actually pretty inspiring. I went out to the downtown core today, and I didn't see a single mask apart from my own. Oh wait, the server in restaurant was wearing one, and that was it.

Interesting. I live in metro Denver and saw more masking when I went to MD, VA, and DC this summer than here. Other than a couple random people, I rarely see masks anymore.

More conspiracy theories about the covid vaccine.
A nationwide Emergency Alert System (EAS - formerly EBS) test, today Oct. 4, 2023 at 2:20pm ET, has some people afraid that the signal thru the 5G towers will activate a dormant pathogen in people who received the vaccine, and kill most of them. 💉🤮

I'm hearing that the newest version of the vaccine is going to be monovalent.
I'm fuzzy as to why - why not protect against more strains? And if it has been 6 months, should we go get a bivalent before the changeover?

Has there been an upsurge in covid cases?

There has been a bit of a spike in COVID cases recently, likely due to the emergence of a new variant called BA.2.86 (also known as Pirola). This new variant has some characteristics that make it more transmissible than previous variants, and it's causing an uptick in hospitalizations in some areas. However, the good news is that vaccines are still effective against this variant, and many people are well-protected due to prior infection or vaccination. It's important to keep an eye on the situation and take precautions like masking and testing if you feel sick. But overall, the situation isn't dire and there's no need to panic. It's just a reminder that COVID is still around and we need to remain vigilant!
.

Are the newest vaccines monovalent?

Monovalent vaccines are specifically designed to target a single strain of a virus, in this case, the original strain of SARS-CoV-2. This approach was chosen because it allows for a faster development process, and it also means that the vaccine can be easily updated in the future if new variants emerge. However, there are also bivalent vaccines in development that target two strains of the virus. These vaccines are thought to provide broader protection, but they take longer to develop and test. So, basically, it's a trade-off between speed and breadth of protection.

Despite targeting the original strain, they've actually been shown to still be pretty effective against the newer variants, like BA.2.86. The reason for this is that these newer variants have enough similarities to the original strain that the immune system can still recognize and fight them off. It's kind of like recognizing a distant cousin who has the same nose and hair color as your uncle, even though they're not identical twins. It's not 100% protection, but it's definitely better than nothing!

Yeah, there's a new wave and I finally got it. That's why I've been mostly absent the last week. Completely better now but anything that fucks with my ability to post on FreeOnes is evil, pure and simple.
If you don't mind me asking, were you vaxxed & if so, which one? (monovalent or bivalent?)

I've taken a shot every time one was offered, last one was a year ago, think it was bivalent. I actually had a covid shot booked for four days after I came down with it so the next one's on hold for a while.

Got the XBB COVID vaccine, as it seems like that's the one to look out for this year.
It used to be that COVID vaccine updates were easy to find, but now you really have to dig because they're not in the headlines.

@DrakeM Did you notice a different reaction between brands?
I've had a mix of Pfizer and Moderna, and each Moderna takes me out for a day, while Pfizer is just like a regular flu shot (sore arm, but nothing else).

I had both kinds of shots, more Moderna than Pfizer, but I don't recall any difference between them - there might have been, I just don't remember. I suspect it matters more what the state of your immune system is rather than the type of shot you're getting but I'm no doctor, well Doctor of Pornology but that doesn't count.

Interesting. I wonder if they improved the vaccines so the side effects aren't as severe. I would probably be more inclined to adhere to the 6 month sched if I didn't have to feel sick for an entire day after each shot.

LOL it's too bad Pornology hasn't developed a vaccine.

Four years and the human herd is mostly immune to covid, mainly from getting infected with about a 99% recovery rate.
The vaccine potentially saved many lives making Pfizer shareholders obscenely rich.
Some people on the left over-reacted to the pandemic, and some people on the right under-reacted.
After the vaccine rolled out, more republicans died from covid because their messiah/fuhrer aka ahole Trump told them that covid was a democrat hoax, even after he got covid and was cured with very expensive free health care at tax payers expense. If every covid patient got similar quality free health care as ahole Trump did, they would all still be alive.
So fuck covid, the CCP, Xi, Trump, Putin, and Hamas cowards. Hopefully they and the suffering they created will all die out soon.
