The Gun Control debate thread

Instead of rehashing the same arguments ad nauseam in thread after thread whenever there's a mass shooting can we just air it out here over and over? If there's another thread devoted to this, sorry.

Just some crazy thoughts: mass shootings are a tragedy and an outrage but when it comes to senseless killings in the U.S. it's still dwarfed by how many innocent people are killed by drunk drivers every year. Why isn't there a push for more laws against that? It's much more of an epidemic in the U.S. than mass shootings. And dead is dead.

And if guns are the primary problem, compare countries where their citizens are effectively disarmed. What is Japan's violent crime rate compared to say the U.K.?

I said this elsewhere - you could forcibly arm each japanese household with an arsenal of automatic weapons and a stockpile of ammo and they would still have the lowest rate of violent crime in the world.

So are guns really the problem?

Guns are not the problem. Lack of quality mental health screening and providers is the problem. There are enough laws on the books already to infringe upon my right to bear arms. And I won't listen to Stompy Foot's rants after he cleared the path for Iran to get the bomb. Fuck that guy. Fuck Mia Farrow. Fuck Piers Morgan. Fuck Hugh Jackman And fuck Lebron James because his mother was too stupid to spell Lebaron correctly.

PS. I'm pleasantly surprised that Mia Farrow doesn't have a babe page.

Firearms must be regulated. ust like cars and other vehicles. More so, because even though they ary partially for selfdefense, they are for killing.

Mind you: THIS IS NOT ABOUT TAKING GUNS FROM LAW_ABIDING, SANE CITIZENS

As for the rebuttal, that the criminals and insane are not giving up their weapons for free:

No, probably not. That is what "Stop & Frisk" was intended for. Targetting persons to check who appear to have illegal firearms (based on statistics) and pull those guns in.

This is a long process, but you are not saying you are a nation of people who give up on big tasks that will save thousands of american lives, are you?

The guy who did the shooting in Oregon had mental health issues, diagnosed mental health issues. Still he was able to legally buy a gun.

Mandatory background checks for every gun purchased is a bare minimum.

Could someone please define "gun control" for me, or at least tell me what it means to you?

Porn Lover
maybe background checks, no huge magazines, maybe restrictions on semi-automatics etc

or it could be taken further, whereby you had to be part of a well ordered militia to own guns - I'm sure i read something about that somewhere

Or government regulation of the manufacture, sale, and possession of firearms.

Blakey you are a fucking moron if you don't know what the bill of rights says. "A well regulated militia" does not mean a body of people controlled by the government. It means a well trained and equipped free society. To think the constitution does anything but limit federal authority is batshit crazy.

- Y'all kill each other better with your perfectly legal guns, than all the countries combined that you've ever gone to war with. Amazing.

I've not visited the States since I became an adult and at times something that puts me off is the fact you never know who could be walking down the street with a FUCKING GUN in their pocket/bag. It's lunacy to me. The only people that should legally own guns are police and security guards whose job is to protect the public from dangerous criminal types. Dangerous types who are far less likely to have guns if they can't buy them in fucking Walmart.

Driving intoxicated is already illegal. Owning a gun just because you feel like it isn't. That's the problem. Yeah, people getting ran down by drunk drivers will still die if firearms are taken off supermarket shelves and restricted to people that professionally require them. But a lot of those people getting shot by local nutters might not.

I understand what you mean, but someone might say that it is their country, their laws and those who do not live there are disqualed to intervene in their affairs.

James Bond actors are international issue and in my view it is good that some of them are anti-handgun mannequins even thought they are violent macho men when they appears on the big screen.

Any piece of legislation other than the 2nd amendment, related to gunsThe simple fact that kids can't buy guns is already a form of gun-control.

To anti-gun control people, the only piece of legislation about guns that is acceptable in the US is the 2nd Amendment. Anything else i a violation of their right, of the Constitution an,d should be fought against at any cost.
To gun control advocates, the country must implement some new legislation to adapt the law to the society, which is different from what it was in the XVIIIth century

Mr. Daystar

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.
Like the strict gun control in Mexico....or Syria....or Iraq

Or the worst third world hellhole on Earf, Chicago.

The funniest thing is, these half tards don't seem to understand...heroin is illegal, so is coke. Neither one is to hard to find in my neck of the woods, and while I won't dive into your point of view on the subject itself, much like abortion, if you make it illegal, people will still get them. I can easily go into a store and buy a gun legally....I can also get them illegally, and if they outlaw them, that's what I'll likely do, if I have to.

There's so much wrong with your thoughts on this I couldn't begin to tackle all your points without hitting my head repeatedly on my concrete patio floor. Driving is a privilege and can be taken away at any time for infractions ranging from a lapse in insurance, DUI or moving violations. And it should be well regulated because a two ton machine can be a deadly weapon. Gun ownership is a RIGHT that ostensibly is to keep the federal government in check. Politicians who fear firearms should not fear inanimate objects but rather they should fear the hate and discontent they fuel when they pass shitty laws that infringe upon the rights of free people. The constitution DEMANDS gun owners train regularly and that they be prepared to defend this country.
